Canal Sony today announced the return of the iconic and ground- breaking series American Idol to Latin America, following a deal with FremantleMedia International. The series, which is set to launch on ABC (US) in March 2018, will return “home” to Canal Sony with a brand new panel of music industry forces and superstar judges, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, with Award-winning host and producer Ryan Seacrest returning as host of the beloved series.
American Idol’s profound effect on the music industry is far-reaching and continually growing, launching the careers of superstars Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Katharine McPhee, Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry, among many others. American Idol contestants have sold more than 61 million albums, resulting in more than 47 Platinum records.Its participants have generated more than 444 Billboard No. 1 hits and sold more than 257 million digital downloads. Since premiering in Latin America on Canal Sony in 2004, American Idol has reached more than 33 million households.

The nationwide search for the next superstar kicked off in August, as the Idol Bus travelled from Portland, Oregon, to Orlando, Florida in its pursuit for talent, covering 23 cities across America. Auditioning was made easier than ever as hopefuls also had the opportunity to submit audition videos online, as well as via select social media platforms using an official tag, #TheNextIdol, cultivating over 300,000 posts. Also, for the first time in American Idol history, hopefuls had the opportunity to audition through a livestream platform.
