FremantleMedia International (FMI) has agreed the distribution rights to a collection of new non-scripted titles. The new additions to FMI’s ever-growing catalogue of factual and documentary shows include Wild Pictures’ Miriam’s’ Big American Adventure, Naked Entertainment’s Indian Summer School (w/t), Boundless Productions’ Love in the Countryside and Arrow Media’s Inside Balmoral.

Our mix of talent fronted shows have reached global audiences and captured their attention,” said Angela Neillis, Director of Non-Scripted, UK, EMEA and Asia Pacific for FremantleMedia International. “Our newest documentaries include great on and off-screen creative talent, feature powerful and compelling topics and will take viewers on highly visual and enlightening journeys.”
The first addition to FMI’s slate is the fascinating documentary, Miriam’s Big American Adventure. Described by The Telegraph in the UK as “terrifically entertaining”, the series follows the inimitable Miriam Margolyes (Harry Potter, The Real Marigold Hotel on Tour) as she embarks on an epic road trip through the heartlands of Middle America with her unique mix of charm, cheek and curiosity. Former US resident Miriam heads from Chicago to New Orleans and along the way meets the people whose voices and votes are reshaping the US nation. From summer camps to county jails and all girl motorbike gangs to a mass citizenship ceremony, the articulate, funny and refreshingly honest Miriam immerses herself in communities whose vision of their own country challenges everything she thought she knew about America. The 3 x 60’ series is produced by Wild Pictures and launched on BBC One (UK) in January, 2018 to widespread acclaim.
Next up is the inspirational documentary series Indian Summer School (w/t), which seeks to test the theory that white working-class boys, who are falling behind their classmates in their exam results, perform significantly better alongside ethnically diverse peers. The 3 x 60’ series follows a group of five British boys, who have all struggled academically, as they spend five months immersed in life at The Doon School, an Indian boarding school a world away from their usual classroom environment, in the hope of transforming their attitude to learning and to life. The series will launch on Channel 4 (UK) later this year and is produced by Naked Entertainment. FremantleMedia took a 25% stake in the Simon Andreae production company in 2016 and distributes their content globally.
FMI has also acquired the heart-warming series, Love in the Countryside. The show follows a group of men and women, ranging from farmers to rural vets, who are isolated from the urban dating pool and are ready to not only see if they can meet their match, but also to introduce a potential partner to the true realities of life in the countryside. The 6 x 60’ series is set to air on BBC Two (UK) later this year and is produced by FremantleMedia’s UK factual label, Boundless.
The historical 3 x 60’ documentary series, Inside Balmoral, is a captivating series which reveals the dramatic past of Balmoral, one of the most famous buildings in the UK, and how these events have shaped the lives of Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family. The series is produced by Arrow Media and premiered on Channel 5 (UK) in October 2017.
Over the past few years, FMI has teamed up with a number of leading factual producers such as Atlantic Productions for The Coronation; CNN, Herzog & Company and Playtone for The Nineties; ZPZ films for Wasted; The Story of Food Waste; Alaska TV for Coastal Railways with Julie Walters; and Bend It TV’s India’s Partition; The Forgotten Story. The Gurinder Chadha led production company joined the FremantleMedia family in 2017.
