‘Los Williams’ documentary competes at San Sebastián Film Festival

Produced by Kanaki Films and En Cero Coma, a Fremantle label, Los Williams will have its world premiere at the 72. edition of the San Sebastián International Film Festival, where it will open the Zinemira section.

The Williams brothers, Iñaki and Nico, will present the new Raúl de la Fuente documentary, Los Williams at San Sebastián. This filmmaker returns to San Sebastián International Film Festival with the incredible story of two international stars, which has been selected to compete for the Irizar Award to the Basque cinema in the section Zinemira of the 72. edition of the Festival, held from September 20 to 28 in Donostia.

The film will premiere worldwide in the Donostiarra contest on Friday, September 20, opening this section.

Los Williams tells the story of Iñaki and Nico Williams, two brothers, Basques and ‘Beltzas', who both have a passion for soccer. The documentary explores the link with their roots and addresses issues such as family, hope and return to their origins.

An exciting and personal sports story, produced by Kanaki Films and En Cero Coma, a Fremantle label, in which the soccer stars confront their past and present through the conflicts that have marked their lives: racism, identity and ambition.

De la Fuente, who has three Goya awards for Minerita, Un día más con vida and Maldita, has participated in the San Sebastian Festival six times, the last being five years ago. His first appearance was in 2006 with Nomadak TX in the Special Zabaltegui section, where he won the CICAE Prize. Since then, he has participated five times in the Zinemira section, presenting Minerita in 2013, I am Haiti in 2014, La Fiebre del Oro in 2017 and El infierno in 2019. In 2018, his film Un día más con vida won the public award Ciudad de Donostia in the Perlak section.

“The protagonists are two brothers that take opposite roads. A strong contrast with their parents who played life, like almost all migrants, to survive and fight for a future for their children. Now, the children have become two successful Basque brothers of African origin”, explains Director, Raúl de la Fuente, who recognizes that, “football is a very powerful theme to treat the global inequalities of the planet such as migration and racism”. Adding that this story, "has a universal theme that has long interested me, and personally motivates me, which is the relationship between brothers".
