Wellington Paranormal set to travel internationally

We have taken the international distribution rights to Wellington Paranormal – the mockumentary-comedy from Grammy and Emmy award-winning Jemaine Clement and Oscar-winning Taika Waititi.

The What We Do In The Shadows’ comedy spin-off will be available to the international market for the first time, with Sky already picking up for UK & Eire.

Executive Produced by Clement and Waititi for New Zealand Documentary Board Ltd, Wellington Paranormal is a crime comedy like no other. Following the investigations of hapless duo Minogue and O’Leary (played by Mike Minogue and Karen O’Leary) the series sees them uncover supernatural activity on the streets of Wellington. Filmed documentary style and praised for its “low-key and poker-faced humour” (NZ Herald), the crime busting duo battle ghosts, aliens, vampires, zombies, robots, and legendary sea monsters.

Rebecca Dundon, Vice President of Scripted, Fremantle said: “With an army of loyal fans in Australia and New Zealand, we have no doubt that audiences around the world will soon fall for this brilliant series. We’re excited to be working with such exceptional talent and can’t wait to see how new viewers react to this firm funny favourite.”

Paul Yates, Producer at New Zealand Documentary Board Ltd said: “It’s a very exciting and busy time for our crazy Kiwi comedy, we are delighted that Fremantle will be distributing Wellington Paranormal internationally, and we’re excited to introduce Minogue and O’Leary to the world. Following the series three premiere here in New Zealand, we can promise a lot more paranormal activity to come.”

Wellington Paranormal has enjoyed great success and critical acclaim in its native country and across Australia, with season one being the most watched sitcom of 2018 on SBS VICELAND, achieving 100% above average viewership in its time slot.

Series one, two and three will be available as a box set from Monday 5th April on Sky Comedy and NOW TV. Series three of Wellington Paranormal continues on TVNZ2 in New Zealand.
